French drain

Do you know what a French drain is? Do you have one?
And shouldn’t it be changed?

The French drain is a pipe installed at the base of the building foundation to facilitate the draining of excess water that accumulates and thus prevents any water infiltration.

If you don’t have one and you have infiltration problems, you should probably consider installing one.

If you do, make some checking to see if it should not be changed, there are some signs that you might think it might be time to have your French drain checked.

Watch for:

- cracks in the foundations or walls;

- significant increase in moisture in the basement;

- the presence of mould on the floor or walls;

- doors and windows that do not close properly;

- the collapse of the board;

Etc. (this list is not exhaustive).
