Sutton’s history

Sutton began in Vancouver in 1983 as the vision of partners Scott Shaw and Lance Tracey who designed a customized service offering for their real estate office. They were so successful, they decided to franchise the formula.

Why is it called “Sutton?” Simply because the partners wanted to find a name without any particular connotation. At the time, they didn’t know they’d be doing business in Quebec!

Since then, Sutton has influenced an entire industry based on the premise that real estate should be fuelled by personalized relationships between a broker and their clients. In fact, Sutton's philosophy was built so that the broker, not the real estate company, is at the centre of every transaction.

Entry into Quebec

In 1995, Sutton began offering its services in Quebec with the vision of serving clients seeking to sell or buy a property.

Without any corporate advertising, Sutton was able to position itself at a high level in Quebec after only 5 years of existence, both in terms of number of brokers and market share. Sutton – Quebec still enjoys this strong position today.

Sutton - Québec now has 17 franchisees, 1,500 brokers and 65 points of service to welcome their many clients and partners. 

Sutton – Quebec has remained the only real 100% commission formula for brokers. The philosophy is always the same: to make brokers pay as little as possible so that they can benefit from the fruits of their work, all while remaining a banner offering all the services their brokers need.

At the heart of innovation

Sutton – Quebec has been a pioneer in many ways and continues to be at the forefront of technology:

  • The first Canadian real estate network to leverage the benefits of the web and own a domain name and website
  • The first real estate company to give all its brokers an email address
  • The first to provide its brokers with an extranet and exclusive tools
  • The first to launch an iPad and iPhone application, winning a special mention from Apple in 2010 for real estate apps
  • The first to introduce mortgage referral commissions from financial institutions to brokers

Sutton – Quebec is a real estate company that is extremely involved to protect the interests of the profession. It’s also the only real estate franchisor among the large companies organized to own brokerage offices in the field, including one that has been at the same address for several years, and is ranked one of the top 5 real estate offices in Greater Montreal for broker productivity and revenue.
