What you need? Cheap investment.

  • Caulking gun. (Be sure to choose a good quality caulking compound. Too much cheap compounds are often difficult to apply and could stay in your storage.)
  • Caulking compound. (such as silicone)
  • Rag.
  • Bowl of soapy water.
  • Foam backer rod or foam rope. (if necessary)
  • Lit candle or a thin sheet of paper. (if necessary)
  • Other tools. (if necessary) 

Caulking: An easy, worthwhile and cheap project!

1- First Identify carrefully the areas to be caulked.

2- Clean the areas to be caulked

3- Prepare caulking cartidge by following instructions

4- Apply caulking compound by following instructions

5- Smooth the joint With a finger dipped in soapy water to prevent the compound from sticking to your finger.

Be carreful, doors and windows are note the only common air leakks you can seal. Air leaks may occur at various locations in your house like electrical outlets, fireplace, attic hatch, etc.
